Old Fashioned Brownies

After a long long time, I finally enjoyed a bit of  “Me Time” this weekend. I don’t know about you but I hardly get any “Me” time and you all have to trust me on this. There is “ Mommy & Me Time” and there is “ Husband & Me Time” and “Family Time” and “Girls Time”, “Work Time” and million other times but there is hardly any “Me Time”. Don’t we all love a little quiet time only to our self, time when we do absolutely nothing but spend few minutes relaxing and getting our mind away from everything.

I have to tell you all that doing nothing for a change was fun rather it was an accomplishment… I snuggled with a book, smilingly ignoring every little chore. Mellow afternoon sun, cool spring breeze and delicious brownies; “ Me Time” really breathe new life into me…

OK enough of my “Me Time”, lets get to these incredible brownies. I am sure I must have told you all about my love for chocolate but have I ever mentioned my addiction for brownies… Yes I am a Brownieholic!!!  Brownies are my absolute to go indulgence; I adore the gooey, chewy dense deliciousness of brownies.

There are many recipes of brownies I treasure but this recipe is the king of all.  This recipe for “Old Fashioned Brownies” is from one of my favorite go-to cookbook “bon appétit Desserts” by Barbara Fairchild. I adore this cookbook, every recipe is a delight, trust me I have loaded this book with endless amount of sticky notes pointing to recipes I want to make… Someday hopefully soon!!!

These brownies are simple yet so delicious, there is nothing fancy about this recipe. Good Old fashion Brownies; absolutely delicious, you won’t be able to resist at one.

Auto Draft

  • Nonstick vegetable oil spray.
  • 5 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped.
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cut into 8 pieces.
  • 2 cups sugar. {I only used 1 ¾, as I wanted mine a little less sweeter}
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract.
  • 4 large eggs.
  • ¼ teaspoon salt.
  • 1 cup unbleached all purpose flour.

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line 13x9 inch metal baking pan with aluminum foil/parchment paper, leaving 2-inch overhang on both long sides. If using aluminum foil spray with nonstick spray.
  2. Stir chocolate and butter in heavy large saucepan over low heat until melted and smooth {I use “Double boiler” method}. Cool for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Whisk sugar and vanilla into chocolate mixture. Whisk in eggs (one at a time) and salt. Finally stir in flour. Spread the batter in the prepared pan.
  4. Bake brownies until tester inserted into center comes out with moist crumbs attached, about 20 minutes. Cool in pan.
  5. Serve, I like to dust them with powdered sugar but it is completely optional.
